from the realm of the randomness

Rem: *coughs*
Machina: Rem!
Rem: Ahaha… looks like something… is stuck in my throat…
Machina: ……..Rem.
Rem: W-what’s wrong? You became so quiet…
Machina: I’m asking you, please just tell me honestly.
Rem: What is it?
Machina: How bad is your illness?
Rem: I don’t have an illness or anything! Ah, are you talking about my asthma? That’s already fine—
Machina: Stop this! You can tell just me! Talk to me about it! Please!
Rem: ………..There’s really nothing at all.
Machina: Why won’t you tell me?! Is it because I can’t be relied on?
Rem: …………
Rem: Machina, you’re just reading too much into it. I’m fine, really!
Rem: Ah, it’s time for practice, so I’m going, okay?
(Rem leaves)
Machina: Dammit! That idiot! You’re really terrible at lying…!

It’s always painful for me to screencap my baby dying but I was playing the final boss battle for screencapping purposes and… how come I have never noticed this before?

After pulling out Cid’s Phantoma and absorbing it, the current member you’re controlling dies off (in this case, Ace) and you replace with another, yeah yeah, but I didn’t notice the two Phantoma thingies from Machina and Rem leaving the bodies of the Class Zero member until I looked at this. When I play, I usually replace them with another member immediately when the current member dies, so my eyes are usually trained on the reserve list.

I see, I seeee, so Machina/Rem’s Phantoma-like thingies bring a Class Zero member into battle and lend them extra power, and when that person “dies” after absorbing Cid’s Phantoma one-by-one, MR’s Phantoma thingies leave, only to bring back another member…? Maybe that’s why you only control each member one at a time, because that invicibility/Haste mode can only be granted one at a time? I dunno. 8D;;

At any rate, it also makes sense why Class Zero members die in the ending, because they were already severely weakened from this scene: (where you will fail the S.O. no matter what and Cid “kills” them, leaving them bloodied and weakened)

And Machina and Rem’s powers were only temporary. (As per the novel when Ace tried to heal Izana: Even if you close the wounds, blood which has flown out will not return. That’s why Queen commented, “It is no longer of any use.” to Ace.)

Locations of Class Zero’s l’cie brands:

Machina: Right shoulder
Rem: Left shoulder area

Ace: Right arm below elbow
Deuce: Back
Trey: Left arm below elbow
Cater: Right arm below elbow
Cinque: Right shoulder
Sice: Right arm below elbow
Seven: Left shoulder
Eight: ???
Nine: Right arm above elbow
Jack: Right arm below elbow
Queen: Left arm
King: Back

I can’t see Eight’s in the cutscene, so I guess I’ll have to go on the l’cie route (ugh) and play as/take control of him.

Arecia: It looks like the medicine is not effective.
Arecia: The condition (of the disease) has progressed further.
Rem: …How much further is it?
Arecia: It is certain that it has not progressed too far, but I am unable to come to a conclusion.
Rem: ……
Arecia: I have heard from the previous person-in-charge, but your wish is to stand on the battlefield as a cadet until the end, right?
Rem: Yes. In any case… it is an incurable disease after all, so I do not want to be confined to my bed and waiting for death.
Arecia: Then please submit the documents written by the experts (former person-in-charge?) later.
Arecia: I will prescribe you a new medicine, so do ensure that you take it every morning.
Arecia: However, there may be a possibility of side-effects where you will feel extreme pain at night.
Rem: Yes, I understand.
Arecia: That is all.
Rem: Uhm…
Arecia: Do you still have anything else?
Rem: I would like you to please keep my illness a secret from Class Zero.*
Arecia: Ah, about that? The cadets’ data are confidential.
Arecia: You do have to worry about it.

*Actually what she said was more of “I would like you to keep mum on my illness” but since she’s using polite Japanese, I tried to rephrase it orz keigo orz

Rem has asthma, so I guess she’s talking about it here.

Ooh taichou ooh

Rem: Well, what about that time you made a hole in the roof of the warehouse?
Machina: Haha, I was scolded with a really, really menacing look. I haven’t forgotten about that.
Rem: That’s right, the crystal makes us forget all about the dead, but…
Rem: We do remember what happened.
Rem: I’m still holding on to the Knowing Tags of everyone from the village.
Machina: ……………
Machina: When the village was burning… when we didn’t have the strength to fight… it still frustrates me, even now.
Rem: We were still kids back then, so there was nothing we could’ve done… right?
Rem: Machina, you said so, right?
Rem: That you’ll become a strong soldier someday, and that you’d protect me from all the bad adults?
Machina: I haven’t forgotten.
Rem: In that case… you do remember your promise to make me your wife too, right?
Machina: Eh? Ah, no, that is… uh, that was something said at the spur of the moment so uh, you see…
Rem: Hmm~ even though you were really serious about it too~ Machina, you’re so cold.
Machina: Don’t make fun of me…

These two hnggggh

Machina: Brother, I was transfered to Class Zero. That rumoured Class Zero.*
Rem: Machina.
Machina: I was reporting to my brother.
Machina: But even though I said that, I don’t even remember what kind of person my brother was.
Rem: Your brother died protecting Suzaku and accomplishing his mission, right?
Machina: But… it’s strange.
Rem: Strange?
Machina: During that Liberation of the Capital mission, my brother wasn’t even supposed to sortie.
Rem: What do you mean?
Machina: Even though I asked the military authorities, they wouldn’t tell me anything.
Rem: So… although there wasn’t an order to sortie, your brother was on the battlefield?
Machina: That or… it could’ve been a highly-classified top-secret mission which they can’t even publish in records, huh.
Rem: He’s your brother after all, Machina. I’m sure he did everything he could with all his might.
Machina: That’s what I’d like to think.
Machina: (to himself) But why were you at the frontlines? Why did you die… brother…

*He used “entered Class Zero” and “dream” (unreal) to describe Class Zero, but I went for “rumour”.

I believe Izana’s mission was to deliver those COMM devices to Class Zero, which was why Kurasame started using it do give instructions and Jack ended up playing/testing with during the very first mission?

Cinque: It’s been a long time since Mother gave us a mission~
Eight: It isn’t exactly a happy mission, right?
Cinque: Really? It’s just collecting Phantoma, you know~
Trey: It is because we are collecting them from Suzaku.
Cinque: Come to think of it, we can collect Phantoma from the people of Suzaku too?
Eight: This time, it’s Mother’s orders.
Eight: There should be a reason why there’s a need to gather the Phantoma Suzaku loses in the battlefield.
Trey: Exactly.
Cinque: Well then, let’s go!!

Cinque: Ah, found another Suzaku soldier!
(Cinque gets shot)
Eight: Cinque!
Trey: That sound… an ultra long-distance rifle?!
Arecia: Hurry and bring (carry) Cinque over to my facility.
Eight: Mother? Yes, understood.

Cinque: Mother?
Arecia: Yes. Welcome back.
Cinque: Eeehh? I was… at the battlefield…
Arecia: The fourteen of you will not die. Until the souls are released, and the final choice has been chosen.
Cinque: Heh?
Arecia: When the required time comes, the souls in the cage will be released, and the heart, as it is, will carry out the final choice.
Cinque: As usual, I don’t understand what Mother says~
Arecia: It is fine if you do not.

At least that sort of explains why if you get any of Class Zero members killed off in the battlefield/field, just enter any town or go back to the Peristylium and the dead characters get revived. (No, there are no potions to revive characters, the most you can do is use the Raise magic once you have it but if you’re not quick enough, the dead characters disappear from battles for good until you enter a town/Peristylium.) And for some reason, the game finds it necessary to keep a record of how many times you get a character killed off. orz

And you can see Cinque’s panties if you make her wear her summer or formal uniform. I don’t know why Eight could remember Cinque if she was killed on the spot, though.

While we’re at the topic of Queen’s pantsu, Queen’s battle style is fast and she’s very, very concerned about her pantsu showing, so she tends to hold/pat her skirt down quickly after attacking.

And her skirt sort of flies up after absorbing Phantoma, so she’ll use her left hand to do a swiping motion to hold her skirt down.

I was screencapping pantsu yesterday. Don’t ask. 8D;; This is for Jane since she says Queen’s pantsu are hers.

Then I’ll lay claim to Cinque’s pantsu. And Deuce’s. And Rem’s too because I’m greedy.
